Al Islam: the religion Islam is a monotheistic religion that originated in the Arabian Peninsula in the 7th century CE. It is based on the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad, who is considered the last prophet of God in Islam. The central belief in Islam is the oneness of God, or tawheed. Muslims believe in the existence of one God, who is the creator and sustainer of the universe. The primary scripture of Islam is the Quran, which is considered the literal word of God as revealed to the Prophet Muhammad over a period of 23 years. Islam emphasizes the importance of the Five Pillars of Islam, which are the foundation of Muslim practice. These include the declaration of faith (shahada), prayer (salah), giving to charity (zakat), fasting during the month of Ramadan (sawm), and pilgrimage to Mecca (hajj).
